  1. Ilocki Podrumi Grasevina Selected 2013 (Welsch Riesling) Label

    Iločki Podrumi Graševina Selected 2013

    £9.95

Iločki Podrumi Graševina Selected 2013, is a quality wine from the localised indigenous version of the Graševina grape, which is grown widely across eastern Croatia (Jancis Robinson takes the view that Croatia or the Danube basin apears to be the mostly likely origin of the Graševina grape) .

Known locally as the “Wine of grace”, a fitting name for a really beautiful wine with a similarly silky mouth feel to a premium Chardonnay. This dry white wine has an excellent balance and a lovely crisp dry taste of fruit with a typical Croatia style and length of finish found in wines from the best Croatian producers.

If you have not tasted Graševina before, this wine will not disappoint and will allure you quickly into its charms with its light yellow colour and green reflections in the glass.

  24. Franc Arman Merlot 2009 Vrhunsko Croatian Wine label detail

    Franc Arman Merlot 2009 (Vrhunsko)

    £21.50

The 2009 is the second Merlot Vintage from Franc Arman and is a superb example of the wine - declared by the Croatian authorities as Vrhunsko, a Supreme Quality wine. Very soft and easy to drink on its own or with food such as steaks, but also goes well with roast turkey. Very well balanced and a long complex finish. "This Merlot has an extremely distinctive and deep ruby colour with mild purple reflections. It is exciting even when one just looks at it. In a still glass, at first this wine has an aroma of raspberry and blackcurrant, typical of Merlot. When the glass is rotated the wine releases an array of other different aromas: wood seasonings and spices. Wood in this Merlot is balanced so it is not prevailing. Consequently, at the second sniff, one smells the aroma of cedar as well as of plenty of berry fruits. By sitting in a glass the wine decants itself, and thus opens up and becomes more and more attractive on the nose. The taste will only reconfirm this distinctive aroma. Its retro-nasal taste is extremely strong, harmonic and long-lasting. Mineralisation of this wine is interesting, which is due to the soil where it grows. Its freshness also comes from the combination of red and white soil. The Merlot “educated” in this manner has a good potential for aging and it is gastronomically adaptable to many culinary dishes." Tasting notes by Sandi Paris (Champion Sommelier from Pula, Istria) on 2008 vintage. Croatian available on request. The 2009 vintage is just as excellent. Excellent with red meat and roast turkey.
